I upgraded to the lastest version of Wordpress tonight. I also added a new theme. The upgrade gave me some cool features like the ability to “auto” install plug-ins and such. I really like the new theme and this one allows me to use widgits. They are turning out to be very useful. Here are some highlights of the night:

The blog is now on the latest version of WP

I have it posting to FaceBook via a FB application (I’m exploring options for pushing from WP)

New theme

Two sidebars of widgets – including my latest tweets and some other cool stuff

I still have a lot to do:

Tweak theme colors

Change theme images to my own

Explore better ways to notify my social networking sites that I’ve posted new entries

See if there are any more plug-ins I want

The good news is I’ve learned a lot and now I can apply that to some other web related projects I have. Now, it’s time for sleep.

Well, it only took about a billion years, but I finally signed up on facebook. Yay me! As far as I can tell, there are pluses and minuses.

The pluses

I’ve found a bunch of friends from both high school and college that I haven’t talked to in a while

I’ve extended my foray into social networking beyond Twitter.

I’ve given myself a reason to get another &*@#! blog post done (why the fact that I can now get the euphoric rush of linking said blog from my FB page, just so the buddies I haven’t talked to in 10 years have can have it shoved in their faces anytime I finally get my lazy butt in gear and post going forward, is enough to get me to do this, I don’t know. It’s late and I’m not thinking completely clearly)

I just used “foray” in context

The cons

It has become quite the time sucker

I now have one more thing to log into

I believe that I just made my dear friend (and former English teacher), Margaret livid over my egregious use of commas in #3 above

The pressure man! (am I so much cooler online?)

OK, so the cons are lame. I’m betting the whole piece is weak, but, hey, it’s a new post. Somewhere, somebody who knows me just said, “right on your 6 month schedule dork-face!”. Now, however, when I should be going straight to bed, I’ll be publishing this and then hopping right on over to that antithesis of productivity and linking to the rss feed of of nonameblog. The anticipation it palpable!

I’m now out of SAT words. I’m also tired.

more to come soon …

night!

So, despite my working for one of the best hosting companies in the world, I haven’t been much of an early adopter for a lot of the Web 2.0 technologies out there. Hell, I can’t even keep my blog updated, and it’s one of the “first” and most straight forward inroad into this world of social networking. Anyway, there’s a lot out there. So, in order to get myself caught up and such, I signed up for a Twitter account on Friday.

It’s hard to describe exactly what it is, but think of it as blogging with severe A.D.D. You get 140 characters to speak your mind and often times, this generates replies by those who “follow” you. You chose people to follow was well. So, you start to build a rolling list of comments made by people all over the world. There are any number of disjointed conversations for you to take part in, and when you explore new people to follow, you get to see who they are following – thereby increasing the potential to add to the pool of comments you get. It’s kind of like the digital version of people watching at a bar in the middle of a Las Vegas casino.

Anyway, I’ve enjoyed it. Hopefully this will get me to post more thoughts here (the kind that need more than 140 characters). I felt like sharing. Check it out if you haven’t before. Hopefully, I’ll see you there!

I dig computers and working in the IT world and such. Normally, though, I don’t get too wrapped up in the latest gadgets. Sure, there are plenty I want (still haven’t gotten my iPod yet), I just tend to drag my feet in actually acquiring them.

This may have changed. I’m actually dying to get one of these – the Apple iPhone (or what ever it ends up being called after litigation)! This is one cool geek toy if do say so myself. iPod, cell phone and PDA in one extremely sexy device. And it’s that groovy packaging that Apple does so well. The also tend to add some features that just make their stuff a got to have item.

I’m not going to spend a lot of time listing each detail. Steve Jobs did a fine job of that yesterday at the announcement. You should check it out yourself. (it is quite long – but super cool!) This just might be one gadget where I have to succumb to commercialism and get as soon as it’s available on a carrier that works for me.
Yummy!

By night, I like to pretend I’m the next great internet entrepreneur (tights and cape sold separately) by trying to dabble with little web projects from time to time. Unfortunately, I tend to get distracted before any get substantial traction. I decided this week (along with starting a new blog), to pick back up on one of the ones I’ve taken a couple of cracks at already:
